iSimple
Q: How long has iSimple been around?
A: In 2006, iSimple began as the iPod integration accessories sub-brand of Peripheral Electronics, an industry leader in automotive technology integration solutions. Due to the strong consumer response to the iSimple GateWay and SoundByte, as well as the expansion of products coming out under the iSimple line, iSimple became a stand-alone brand in 2009.
Q: Where can I buy iSimple products?
A: iSimple products are available at specialty car audio and electronics dealers nationwide as well as chain stores such as Best Buy, Car Toys, Fry’s Electronics and Ultimate Electronics. You can also find iSimple products online at Amazon, Crutchfield, Auto Toys, Sonic Electronix, Discount Car Stereo and Auto Sound Central. To find a store near you, see our dealer locator.
Additionally, you can purchase many of our products directly from us using our online shopping cart. Â
Q: What iSimple solution is right for my car?
A: Excellent question. One of the most important parts of enjoying an in-car iPod solution is finding the right one for your particular make and model of vehicle. Read the tech info provided on each product page to see if there are any special exceptions that apply to your vehicle or radio. Once you see what solutions work, take a look at the product descriptions and features to see which solution fits your particular needs, as well as your budget. If you still have question, feel free to contact our customer assistance center at 866-788-4237.
Q: Can having an iSimple solution installed void my vehicle manufacturer’s warranty?
A: Absolutely not. When installed and used properly, your manufacturer’s warranty will not be voided in any way. In fact, many of our solutions are recommended for leased vehicles for that very reason. We do highly recommend professional installation for many of our products.
Q: How do I contact iSimple if I have a question or need help?
A: For customer assistance or tech support by phone, call 866-788-4237. You can reach us online by going to the Contact Us page on this site or by e-mailing support@isimplesolutions.com. Finally, you can send ground mail to us at:

iSimple GateWay(PXAMG)
Q: How does the iSimple GateWay work?
A: When it was first introduced in late 2007, the iSimple GateWay was the first interface that utilized a car’s built-in satellite radio connection to provide music from an iPod or iPhone, as well as library browsing by Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlist from the radio controls. The iSimple GateWay offers crystal-clear music from any iPod or iPhone model, and houses technology allowing it to be upgraded with an HD Radio receiver or Bluetooth module.
Q: What iPod and iPhone models does the iSimple GateWay work with?
A: With the exception of the iPod shuffle, the iSimple GateWay works with every model of iPod and iPhone. Due to a change made by Apple when it introduced its iPhone 3G, 4th generation iPod nano and 2nd generation iPod touch iSimple ReVolt(IS710) or iSimple ReVolt Mini(IS712) may be required for battery charging on these models.
Q: Can I install an iSimple GateWay myself?
A: Yes. The iSimple GateWay was designed to be installed in about an hour by somebody with a basic knowledge of car audio. There are even videos on this site and on YouTube that show how to install the product. However, we strongly recommend professional installation for two reasons: (a) you are guaranteed a proper installation, and (b) a professional installer can provide support in the event of an installation problem. Please see our dealer locator to find an installer near you.
Q: The iSimple GateWay comes with secondary audio inputs (a headphone-style jack and RCA plugs). What types of portable media devices can you use with these extra inputs?
A: Almost any type of portable audio device can be connected with these inputs. This includes (but is not limited to) mp3 players, GPS systems, portable satellite receivers, hand-held video game systems, portable DVD players or even laptop computers.
Q: If I have an iSimple GateWay installed, will I lose my satellite radio service?
A: In most cases, a vehicle with a professionally installed iSimple GateWay will retain its factory-installed entertainment and convenience features (ie: satellite radio, rear seat entertainment and CD changers). However, in some rare cases, one or more of these features must be disabled (please check vehicle compatibility notes for details). A properly installed iSimple GateWay will in no way interfere with any factory-installed safety features.
Q: Does the iSimple GateWay support video from the iPod, iPhone or other portable devices?
A: Currently the iSimple GateWay does not support video.
iSimple NuRadio HD(HDRT)
Q: What is HD Radio?
A: It’s the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally – a tremendous technological leap that improves reception, sound quality and programming options. HD Radio gives you static-free AM and FM reception, as well as access to additional radio stations that a standard receiver can’t pick up, all without any subscription fees or contracts.
Q: Do I need an iSimple GateWay to get an iSimple NuRadio HD installed?
A: Yes. The iSimple NuRadio HD connects to your factory radio via technology built into the iSimple GateWay. It is not compatible with other iSimple products.
Q: How many HD Radio stations are there out there?
A: There are over 1,800 broadcasting station, plus more than 900 NEW local FM HD2 and HD3 channels. To find HD Radio stations in your city and state, follow this link.

iSimple SoundByte(PXDP)
Q: How does the iSimple SoundByte work?
A: The iSimple SoundByte uses your car’s CD changer port (sometimes located in the trunk or glove compartment) to connect an iPod or iPhone directly to its factory-installed stereo. This connection gives you excellent sound quality, as well as enabling you to select tracks using the FFWD / RRWD buttons just like a CD changer.Â
Q: What iPod and iPhone models does the iSimple SoundByte work with?
A: With the exception of the iPod shuffle, the iSimple SoundByte works with every model of iPod and iPhone. Due to a change made by Apple when it introduced its iPhone 3G, 4th generation iPod nano and 2nd generation iPod touch an iSimple ReVolt(IS710) or iSimple ReVolt Mini(IS712) may be required for battery charging on these models.
Q: Does the iSimple SoundByte show Song, Title and Artist info on the radio display?
A: Unfortunately, the iSimple SoundByte does not currently display Song, Title and Artist data. Because your car stereo “thinks” the iSimple SoundByte is an auxiliary CD player, you will see “TRACK” along with a track number on your display.
Q: Can I install an iSimple SoundByte myself?
A: Yes. The iSimple SoundByte was designed to be installed in about an hour by somebody with a basic knowledge of car audio. However, we strongly recommend professional installation for two reasons: (a) you are guaranteed a proper installation, and (b) a professional installer can provide support in the event of an installation problem. Please see our dealer locator to find an installer near you.
Q: Does the iSimple SoundByte support video from the iPod or iPhone?
A: No, the iSimple SoundByte does not support video.
Q: If I have an iSimple SoundByte installed, will I lose any of my radio functions?
A: In most cases, the CD changer (or, in some cases, satellite radio receiver) will have to be disconnected in order for the iSimple SoundByte to work. However, in some rare cases, a properly installed iSimple SoundByte will in no way interfere with any factory-installed safety features.
Â
iSimple BiPass(PXAUX)
Q: How does the iSimple BiPass work?
A: The iSimple BiPass operates similarly to the iSimple GateWay. Both units use the same type of wiring harness to connect to your radio. By linking in through your car’s built-in satellite radio connection, the iSimple BiPass provides you with two extra auxiliary inputs – either two 3.5mm headphone-style jacks, two RCA-style plug sets or a combination of both.
Q: Can I install an iSimple BiPass myself?
A: Yes. The iSimple BiPass was designed to be installed in about an hour by somebody with a basic knowledge of car audio. However, we strongly recommend professional installation for two reasons: (a) you are guaranteed a proper installation, and (b) a professional installer can provide support in the event of an installation problem. Please see our dealer locator to find an installer near you.
Q: What type of portable audio devices can I use with the iSimple BiPass?
A: You can connect two of almost any type of portable audio device to your car stereo with the iSimple BiPass. This includes, but is not limited to, any type of iPod or iPhone, other types of mp3 player, GPS systems, portable satellite receivers, hand-held video game systems, portable DVD players or even a laptop computer.
Q: If I have an iSimple BiPass installed, will I lose my satellite radio service?
A: In most cases, a vehicle with a professionally installed iSimple BiPass will retain its factory-installed entertainment and convenience features (ie: XM Radio, rear seat entertainment and CD changers). However, in some rare cases, one or more of these features must be disabled (please check vehicle compatibility notes for details). A properly installed iSimple BiPass will in no way interfere with any factory-installed safety features.
Q: Does the iSimple BiPass support battery charging for the iPod, iPhone or other portable devices?
A: No. You will have to use some other type of mobile charger to keep your portable devices charged and ready to go. The iSimple BiPass just provides audio from those devices to your car stereo.
iSimple TranzIt(IS77)
Q: Does the iSimple TranzIt really work with any type of car?
A: Yes! The iSimple TranzIt works with any vehicle that has at least an FM radio.
Q: How does the iSimple TranzIt work?
A: The iSimple TranzIt works very similarly to the signal splitter that you would use when hooking up an older video game system (anybody remember the Atari or the original Nintendo?) to your TV. On those older systems you tuned your TV to a certain empty channel to play your game. Well, that’s what you do with the iSimple TranzIt. Simply designate an unused FM frequency as an iPod channel, tune in and turn the iSimple TranzIt on.
Q: Can I install an iSimple TranzIt myself?
A: Yes. The iSimple TranzIt was designed to be installed in about an hour by somebody with a basic knowledge of car audio. However, we strongly recommend professional installation for two reasons: (a) you are guaranteed a proper installation, and (b) a professional installer can provide support in the event of an installation problem. Please see our dealer locator to find an installer near you.
Q: Can I use both the iPod/iPhone dock and the 3.5mm headphone port that come with my iSimple TranzIt?
A: No. You’ll have to decide which one you want for your system. If you have an iPod or iPhone, use the docking cable. If you’re more likely to use a Zune or other portable audio player, have the headphone port installed in your dash.
Q: If I have an iSimple TranzIt installed, will I lose any functionality on my radio?
A: No. With the exception of the frequency you select to be your iPod/iPhone channel, there are no other modifications to how your radio functions. If you have satellite radio, HD Radio or a CD changer, you will keep functionality on all of these.
Q: Does the iSimple TranzIt support battery charging for the iPod, iPhone or other portable devices?
A: For the iPod and iPhone the answer is yes. With the exception of the iPod shuffle, the iSimple TranzIt will charge all models of iPod or iPhone. However, the iSimple TranzIt will not charge media devices plugged into the optional 3.5mm headphone-style input.
Q: Can I control my iPod/iPhone through my stereo or entertainment system with an iSimple TranzIt?
A: No. Even thought the iSimple TranzIt utilizes an “emulator” to connect to your system, it does not give you track or song control like many of the other advanced solutions do. This is because the only thing the iSimple TranzIt is emulating is an FM signal, not the function of an advanced feature like a satellite radio or CD player. Because of this, you’ll have to use your iPod or iPhone’s original controls to find and select music.
Q: Does the iSimple TranzIt support video from the iPod, iPhone or other portable devices?
A: The iSimple TranzIt can be installed so as to provide video, but this installation may require special parts not included with the TranzIt kit and is best done by a trained professional.
iSimple PolyWire(IS75) & MediaWire(IS76)
Q: Does my system have to be an aftermarket radio to work with the iSimple PolyWire?
A: Not necessarily. The iSimple PolyWire works with any mobile audio system that has RCA inputs on either the front or back. However, there are more aftermarket radios on the market that feature RCA inputs than factory-installed ones. Additionally, the PolyWire can be installed using the 3.5mm headphone-style jack.
Q: What types of portable media devices can you use with the headphone-style jack that comes with the iSimple PolyWire?
A: You can connect almost any type of portable audio device with a 3.5mm headphone-style input. This includes, but is not limited to, mp3 players, GPS systems, portable satellite receivers, hand-held video game systems or even laptop computers.
Q: Will an iSimple MediaWire work on any type of rear seat entertainment system?
A: If it has RCA inputs (which most factory and aftermarket rear seat entertainment systems do) then the iSimple MediaWire is compatible. Regardless of screen size, you’ll enjoy the same quality of digital video you would from your iPod or iPhone.
Q: Can I connect an iSimple MediaWire to a front seat video screen?
A: That depends. If you are talking about a navigation radio, you can do this but you may need a switching module (several are available from Peripheral Electronics) to toggle between your navigation radio and video from the iSimple MediaWire. If you have a non-navigation dashboard display, then there should be no problem.
Q: Can I install an iSimple PolyWire or MediaWire myself?
A: Yes. Somebody with a basic understanding of car audio can install an iSimple PolyWire or MediaWire in about 30 minutes. However, we strongly recommend professional installation for two reasons: (a) you are guaranteed a proper installation, and (b) a professional installer can provide support in the event of an installation problem. Please see our dealer locator to find an installer near you.
Q: Can I control my iPod/iPhone through my stereo or entertainment system with an iSimple PolyWire or MediaWire?
A: No. Both the iSimple PolyWire and MediaWire connect directly to your system without any type of advanced interface unit. Because of this, you’ll have to use your iPod or iPhone’s original controls to find and select music, or, in the case of the iSimple MediaWire, video.
iSimple ReVolt(IS710) & ReVolt Mini(IS712)
Q: Why would I need a voltage adaptor to charge my iPod or iPhone.
A: In the last year or so Apple changed how battery charging is handled on their newer iPod and iPhone models. The iPod touch (2nd gen), iPod nano (3rd gen) and iPhone 3G all depend on 5-volt USB charging as opposed to the 12-volt Firewire™ charging used on the iPod classic and other legacy models. Because of this, you may need a charging adaptor.
